Principal, Paradise Valley Elementary School,
Natrona County School District No. 1,
Casper, Wyoming
When Chris Frude became principal of Paradise Valley Elementary School
seven years ago, she inherited a "hard-working, dedicated staff
who were all doing their own thing ... A clear sense of direction was
lacking."
She established a series of meetings with staff and parents to develop
a shared mission and goals for the Pre-K-6 school. A year later, a multi-year
action plan was introduced for language arts and math instruction, resulting
in test scores for Paradise Valley's 350 students that are consistently
above district and state averages. Frude strives to tap and expand the
potential of her staff by offering continual opportunities for professional
growth. She also helped develop a "grow your own teachers' program,
in partnership with several colleges and universities, to assist classified
staff in obtaining certification as special education teachers. Frude
considers her most significant career accomplishment to be developing
and implementing early childhood programs to help preschool children
gain the skills they need to start and succeed in school. As chair of
the Wyoming Early Childhood Development Council and the Early Learning
Policy Academy, she has been instrumental in securing grants to expand
her school's All Ready preschool program to 22 additional schools across
the state.
Frude's educational career has been distinguished with the highest professional
honors. The National Association of Elementary School Principals has
recognized Frude as a national leader for Early Childhood Programs. Recently
the United States Department of Education recognized her as a National
Distinguished Principal for the state of Wyoming.
Frude received an Associate of Arts degree from Central Wyoming College
(Valedictorian). She received her B.A. in Elementary Education and her
M.Ed. in Administration from the University of Wyoming.
